US Open 2022: Carlos Alcaraz flexed his muscles in the 3rd round against Jenson Brooksby

Alcaraz impressed with 46 winning strokes and now meets the winner of the game between Croatian Marin Čilić and Briton Daniel Evans.

“I played at a high level with high intensity. He’s a tough opponent, but I’m very happy with my performance,” said Alcaraz, commenting on his race to catch up in the third set: “I was just there and enjoyed it.”

Curious: At 3: 3 in the third set he had to change his shoes because they broke when he slipped daringly on the hard court. “This is the third time this has happened to me,” the Spaniard had to admit.

The 19-year-old Spaniard is in the round of 16 of a Grand Slam tournament for the fourth time in his young career. In 2020 in New York and in 2021 at the French Open he had reached the quarterfinals.

Brooksby, on the other hand, missed the round of 16 like in 2021. At that time he had failed as a wild card holder against Novak Djokovic, but had taken the first set 6-1 from the Serb.

If the tournament goes well, Alcaraz could take the top of the world rankings after the US Open.
