• After the successful first two sets (25:21 and 25:17), the Americans lost the rhythm of the game in the continuation, conceding in the third (22:25) and fourth (19:25) sets.
• In the decisive fifth act of the game, the Turks had a minimal advantage several times (1:0, 8:7, 10:9 and 11:10), but in the end, the USA volleyball players proved to be more cool-headed, scoring the last three points in a row.
• David Smith scored 17 points for the bronze-medal winning Americans at the previous world championships. The Turkish national team was not saved by the 31 points of the leader Adisa Lagumdzija.
• In the second match of the round of 16, there was no fierce battle, as Poland defeated the Tunisians 3-0 (25:20, 25:15, 25:20) without any major problems. Kamil Semenuk scored 13 points for Poland.
