The president of the USMV Basket, Yannick Andreu Sabater will begin his tenth season as president of the club, and his 36e as a leader.

The opportunity to look back on last season, before the news begins, and to address a very special event that the MJC de Vire will host on Saturday September 10, 2022.

It is indeed on this date that a preparation match for the National 1 basketball championship between Caen Basket Calvados and Vitré will take place at the Lechevrel gymnasium, one week before the official resumption of the championship. The meeting, organized by the USMV Basket, will begin at 7 p.m.

What are the results of your pennant teams?

Our women’s first team has been largely maintained in the Pre-National, they have a very good team which is one of the 20 best teams in Normandy, we had some very good matches at the MJC. For our men’s team, it was much more complicated since it goes down to R2, it was a really difficult season because of the 7 players we lost before the season.

How did you experience this season?

Despite the frustration for our men’s team, I am still satisfied with the overall results of the club.

What are the other results to remember?

Our women’s B team had an exceptional season, they are Calvados champions, winners of the Calvados Cup, they finished first in their championship with 24 wins in 24 games. At the level of our young teams, it is much more mixed, we had many first years and therefore we bet on training work.

Will there be any changes to your pennant teams?

Not so much, Belot Souffrant remains at the head of the women’s team and Thierry Belin keeps the men’s team. Apart from a few departures, the workforce will remain stable.

Has the club won any accolades recently?

Yes, we got two new labels. First of all, the Micro Basket label is a national label that recognizes our work with young children. We have also obtained the basket health label which allows the elderly, or those who have sporting difficulties, to practice sport again.

In terms of your infrastructure, do you have any problem with training slots?

No, it’s going pretty well, we have the MJC and the Val de Vire, all our teams have two training sessions a week. It is essential for everyone to do two training sessions a week in order to progress as quickly as possible. You should know that the threshold of pleasure in basketball is much further away than in football. Putting a basket is more complicated than putting a goal in football.

How many members does the club have?

We have 212 licensees. We are back to our pre-covid level; in 2018 we had 220 licensees, and with the covid, we were down to 153.

Financially, is the club doing well?

Let’s say that we depend on the USMV and that we are doing well, the aid from the City is very important for us.

What are the upcoming events for the club?

On September 10, 2022, we are therefore hosting the gala match between the CBC and Vitré, at 7 p.m. I hope that many of you will be at the MJC!
