Marco Corvetti and Michael Chiara: fifth in Krakow after a great test

In recent days, the curtain has opened on the Judo Kata World Championship, an event that took place under the aegis of the International Judo Federation. Theater of this appointment is the tatami of the Tauron Arena in Krakow, Poland. The prestigious competition dedicated to all the specialties of kata in pairs saw the presence of 242 participating athletes from 26 countries representing all 5 continents. Of the couples belonging to the Italian national team, many have faced their first or second experience at a World Cup, including the Brescia duo made up of Michael Chiara and Marco Corvetti (Judo Calcinato) walked the mats of international competition for the very first time. The road is therefore only at the beginning and the one we have just experienced is a moment of great maturation in view of the next commitments. The Chiara-Corvetti couple competed in the Katame no Kata specialty, consisting of a total of 15 techniques divided into levers, immobilizations and strangulations, in a category that saw the presence of as many as 21 couples who were then divided into two groups. The excellent execution of the complete kata proposed by the Brescia duo earned them 385.0 points and allowed them to reach 5th place in their group. However, they lost, unfortunately by only one point, the possibility of accessing the final with 6 couples. But the satisfaction of a non-trivial participation remains, which will be very useful for the next appointments. «The kata we performed in the race was certainly one of our best performances – says Marco Corvetti -, we are happy to have made a superb figure anyway and this gratifies us even more than the European Championship». Furthermore, the difference in score between the participating couples is very little. Suffice it to consider that in the group of Chiara and Corvetti there was a distance of only 2 points from 5th to 2nd place in the standings, proof of the excellent performance of the Brescia couple, never so high in such a prestigious event. A first test certainly to be framed and of great value in a very high profile competition in which only the best judoka from all over the world participate. «The climate was emotionally important given the value of the event – concludes Corvetti -, even some Australian athletes were present. In this context we also had the opportunity to make friends with judokas of different nationalities and this was certainly a great enrichment for us ». An important training experience that also had as its objective to better prepare for the next competitions. Now eyes on the couple’s new goal: the Italian kata championship to be held on 8 October in Leini, in the province of Turin. •. Gi.F. © REPRODUCTION RESERVED
