Turkish University Sports Federation is hosting a giant organization in Istanbul. 24 teams compete in the 3×3 Universities Basketball Championship, whose finals will be held in Galataport on Saturday, 29 October. Giving information about the 3×3 World Championship, the biggest organization Turkey has undertaken this year, University Sports Federation President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Günay said, “On October 29, which is considered the beginning of the 100th anniversary celebrations of our Republic, we will send messages of friendship and peace from Istanbul, one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The eyes of the whole world will be on Turkey with TRT Spor and Eurosport broadcasts.”

Actually, China was going to host the championship, but after the events, the quality of our 3×3 university teams was offered to us because the level of our league was at a high level. We talked to our Ministry of Sports about hosting such a big event, and with their approval, we took over the hosting. This will be done for the second time in this format.

The activities are divided into 6 continents, where the finals are played first. After these 6 teams are determined in the continents, the World Champion is determined. In this championship, we gathered our girls under Gazi University and our boys under Manisa Celal Bayar University. There was also a wild card. We intervened in this regard and made the necessary negotiations, we were successful and included the Istanbul Technical University team, which will be the host, in the championship. 24 teams will compete. We will represent our country with 3 teams.
The qualifiers will be held at Istanbul Technical University, but with the decision of our ministry, we will hold the finals with a big feast in Galataport on 29 October Republic Day, that is, on the day when the 100th anniversary celebrations will begin. We are preparing carefully for this. In order for the organization to be completed in the best way possible, we agreed with Teknospor, which was founded by very experienced names Can Duraslan and Koray Erdemir. They have implemented 2 facilities, both in ITU Ayazaga Campus and in Galataport, and made all the preparations. Thank you to everyone who has already contributed to this work.

Having both TRT and Eurosport broadcasts of the championship will add great strength to us. We will be able to send messages of friendship and brotherhood to the whole world from there.
Istanbul is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. When we are a candidate with Istanbul, our competitors do not have much left. We undertake these organizations very often as a country, and we will manage it again.
We have to thank our Minister of Youth and Sports and our Ministry for their financial support and contribution to this organization. We work together with Beyoğlu Municipality and Istanbul Technical University. I hope we will organize a good organization. Basketball is already a very popular sport in Turkey. As the Universities Federation, we have been organizing the 3×3 Turkey Championships in Çanakkale for 10 years. More than 800 athletes participated this year. More than 50 universities competed. There is already a lot of interest, but this organization will cause this interest to increase even more.

We will also host the 2024 and 26 championships. All 3 championships were going to be in China, we took all three events at once. We will decide after seeing this year whether the next organizations will be in Istanbul or not. Turkey always does a very good job in terms of organization. We will add a new one to this. Turkey is gradually moving towards becoming a sports country. We will also contribute to this. We are a country with high youth potential. We are gradually turning this into success. One of the things we are especially proud of is that our girls received an important part of the medals we received in different branches. We are trying to pave the way for girls with sports. Hopefully, we will leave behind an organization that will contribute to Turkish Basketball, University Sports and most importantly Turkish Sports.

This year, we will host the international organization for the 4th time, but the gain will be higher than any of them. When we put the names of basketball and Istanbul side by side, this becomes clear. I would like to thank our Ministry of Sports, Spor Toto, Beyoğlu Municipality and ITU for their support.
