6x place 7 at EM U23 – Judo-Landesverband Wien

One could almost say: all good things come in sixes. This weekend the European Championships U23 took place in Sarajevo (BIH). A total of 300 judoka (175 men, 125 women) from 40 nations started. Austria was there with 14 young hopefuls.

The ÖJV team showed very good performances both in the individual competitions and in the mixed team competition. But the leap onto the podium should not work. Maybe you wanted too much. But at least there were six 7th places in singles:

  • GRABNER Lisa (-57kg/JC Wimpassing)
  • HIDEN Verena (-57kg/SU Noricum Leibnitz)
  • LEUTGEB Daniel (-60kg/LZ Multikraft catfish)
  • SHARP FAT Thomas (-90kg/ESV Sanjindo Bischofshofen)
  • PAPOYAN Lion (-90kg/Galaxy Judo Tigers)

From Vienna were still Jacqueline Springer (-48kg/Vienna Samurai), Laura Callinger (-63kg/Judoring Vienna) and Movli Borchashvilli (+100kg/Galaxy Judo Tigers) who unfortunately could not place.

And in the mixed team competition, the ÖJV selection took sixth 7th place. After a victory over Poland, Hungary and France had to admit defeat. Gold went to Turkey, silver to Germany and bronze to Hungary and Georgia.

Gold ging an Nina Auer (-40kg/Creativ Graz), silver and Emily Starzer (ASKO Reichraming), Jael Wernert (Vienna Samurai) and Helene Schrattenholzer (JU Klosterneuburg) and won bronze Michael Proll (UJZ Mühlviertel).

Each took 5th place Florian Kölzer (ASKÖ Reichraming) and Leonie Bayer (Vienna Samurai). 7th place went to Niklas Weitzbauer (JC Wimpassing), Maya Kochauf (Galaxy Judo Tigers) and Jessica Waldhör (Fairdrive Leonding).

We congratulate all young fighters on their success.
