Korea Athletic Awards Gyeonggi Award: Choi Min-jung in short track

Kim Woo-jin (Cheongju City Hall), who won two gold medals in the men’s archery team event at the Olympics, was awarded the Blue Dragon Medal of Sports Merit.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism awarded the medal of merit for sports development and the Korea Sports Award to forty-four athletes at The Plaza Hotel in Seoul on the 14th. The award targets include seven blue dragon captains, seven great tiger chiefs, four great giants, eight white horse chiefs, one giraffe chief, and nine sports captains.

The Medal of Merit for Sports Development is the highest honor in the field of sports given to players and leaders who have contributed to the development of sports in Korea. Cheongryongjang went to Kim Woo-jin and Han Seung-hoon of Hyundai Steel, leaders of archery, Kim A-rang of short track, Park Gyu-cheol (Dalseong-gun Office) of soft tennis, Seolgi of bodybuilding, Kim Hyung-yeol (Seongnam City Hall) of fencing, and Park Jeong-guk, leader of the Korea Disabled Badminton Association. Kim Woo-jin has been active in the national archery team since 2009. He rose to national prestige by winning consecutive men’s team gold medals in Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and Tokyo in 2020. Seung-Hoon Han, a former national team coach, took over as the national team manager in 2017 and drove excellent results in international competitions. Kim A-Rang won gold medals at the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and the World Championships in Canada. Park Gyu-cheol instilled pride in soft tennis players by winning medals at the World Championships and Asian Games from 2012 to 2019. At last year’s World Championships, Seol Gwan became the first in the world to win the combined title in both events. Kim Hyeong-yeol has been a leader since 1998 and led his juniors to gold medal in the men’s saber team event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Park Jung-guk has been working as a coach for the national team since 2015 and achieved three silver medals and one bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Meng Ho-jang was awarded by Seong Si-baek of short track, Yu Kyung-heon of underwater pin swimming, Lim Young-cheol of handball, Kum Ho-yeon of judo, Choi Bo-min of archery (Cheongju Facilities Management Corporation), Shin Soon-cheol of disabled athletics, and Kim Ki-young of table tennis for the disabled. Referee Kim Soon-ok of table tennis, Kyeong-ok Park of kendo, leader Lee Yong-seon of bicycle, and Kim Kyung-young of table tennis for the disabled received the Colossus Award. The white horse race went to Suh Gyeong-seok, canoe leader, Wang Hyeon-mi (Daejeon Metropolitan City Hall) leader for underwater pin swimming, Koo Bon-mun leader for Wushu, and Jeong Byeong-seon, Lee Hwan-hee, Park Man-seok, Yoon Hee-nam, and Lee Sang-min leaders for bodybuilding. Kim Hyeon-hee (Daejeon Metropolitan City Sports Association) received the giraffe jang. The winners of the Sports Medal were: Hwang Jun-seop (St. Johnsbury Academy) leader in underwater fin swimming, Choi Yoo-seul (Guri City Hall) in canoe, Kim Tae-hyun (Incheon City Hall) leader in kendo, Im Na-hyun (Hwaseong City Hall) in archery, Seol Da-young in archery, and Yoon Sang-hwa in Taekwondo (Yongin University) Leader Jeong Se-hoon (Ministry of Defense), Park Hyeon-gyu, Chairman of Gunsan Leisure Industry Co., Ltd.

Eight people received the Korea Sports Award. Choi Min-jeong (Seongnam City Hall, Gyeonggi Award), who won gold medal in the women’s 1500m short track at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics; President of Ground Golf Association (Jeongjin Prize), Jang Seong-joon, track and field coach of Busan Metropolitan City Paralympic Sports Association (disabled competition prize), Boo Hyung-jong, president of Jeju Special Self-governing Province Disabled Basketball Association (disabled sports prize), Ahn Chang-shik LH Korea Land and Housing Corporation modern pentathlon coach (judgment prize) , and the father of diving Woo Haram, Woo Dong-woo.
