7th place for figure skater Vasilijev in the «Grand Prix» stage in the short program / Article

The judges gave Vasiliev 69.01 points for skating, which is significantly lower than his personal record (90.95 points).

The leader after the short program is 17-year-old Japanese junior champion Kao Miura with 94.06 points, ahead of compatriot and world champion Soma Uno, who scored 89.98 points. The Italian Mateo Rico also entered the first three in the competition of 11 participants with 81.18 points.

The distribution of places in the general standings of the second stage of the “Grand Prix” season will be known on Saturday, when figure skaters will compete in optional skating in the city of Mississauga.

There are six stages in the “Grand Prix” calendar, but each participant has the opportunity to start in no more than two competitions. Competing points are earned by the figure skaters who finished in the top eight in the stage. The top six in the Grand Prix season standings will earn a place in the finals, which will be held in Turin, Italy, from December 8-11.

Vasiliev’s second Grand Prix of the season is scheduled for the second weekend of November in Sheffield, Great Britain.

Alternates were added to the stages in China and Russia on the original Grand Prix calendar. The competition will not take place in China due to the country’s Covid-19 containment strategy, while Russia has been excluded from figure skating as an aggressor country and its athletes have also been denied participation.
