A runner who collapsed during Sunday’s London Marathon has died

A participant in the London Marathon who collapsed on the track on Sunday has died. The organizers announced today the death of a 36-year-old man from South-East England.

“Although he received immediate medical attention and an ambulance arrived at the scene within three minutes, the man later died in hospital,” the organizers said of the death of the runner who collapsed after the split at the 37th kilometer. “In accordance with the wishes of the family, no further information will be released. The cause of death will be determined by a medical examiner,” they added.

Kenyan Amos Kipruto and Ethiopian runner Yalemzerf Yehualaw won the marathon.
