In BT Sport’s match analysis, United legend Rio Ferdinand was full of praise for Ronaldo. “Seven hundred goals… I think that’s more than the amount of games I’ve played,” Ferdinand laughed. “Ronaldo wasn’t feeling very well on the bench and he was eager to make a comeback on his comeback. And he has proven himself again. If anyone still doubted him, he put those people in their place.”

The English press praised it with puns. “Making Cristory”, titled The Sun. “Cris-is over?”, wrote The Mirror. In among others Manchester Evening News Ronaldo got an 8 out of 10 for his performance on the Everton pitch.
Football legend and analyst Gary Lineker paid tribute to Ronaldo on Twitter. “700 club goals for the incredible Cristiano Ronaldo. That’s 35 goals a season for 20 years. Crazy!”
