Thiem has struggled for years to regain his form from the 2020 season when he won the US Open. The 29-year-old is currently 165th in the world rankings.
Thiem fought against Rublev for 96 minutes – in vain. The game was balanced, but the Russian created more break chances (8:3) and more breaks (3:1), which ultimately tipped the scales.
After all, Thiem made a big leap forward in the ranking by about 30 places by reaching the semifinals.
