If we had to sum up the strengths of Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid, this Clasico would be a very telling symbol. At the end of a perfect first period, the Casa Blanca joined the locker room with a two-goal lead (2-0). Two different goals but two pawns so Madrid.

It was first Karim Benzema who opened the scoring (1-0, 12th). The Frenchman found himself in the perfect position after a magnificent transition, initiated by Toni Kroos and continued by the untenable Vinicius. Launched in depth, the Brazilian failed in his duel against ter Stegen but KB9, Ballon d’Or expected on Mondaywas in the right place at the right time.

The sequel was even more telling. After an innocuous ball extended by Eric Garcia, it was again Vinicius who found himself at the heart of the action. Rather than attempt the impossible, the Brazilian temporized to initiate a magnificent collective sequence, concluded with a perfect strike from Federico Valverde (2-0, 35th). Real Madrid all spat. And magnificent football of simplicity.
