Colombia paid dearly for its mistakes: it lost in its debut at the U-23 Baseball World Cup

Host Chinese Taipei took advantage of Colombia’s weak defense and unresponsive bullpen, defeating them 6-2 in the opening of the U-23 Baseball World Cup at Taipei Tianmu Baseball Stadium in Taipei City.

Yan-Cheng Wang (1-0) worked 1.2 innings to take the win, Carlos de Ávila (0-1) charged with the backhand, the hosts had 5 hits and took advantage of their rivals’ precarious 7-error defense.

Chinese Taipei made their first run in the second inning when they combined 2 hits and a costly shooting error by Colombian center fielder Brayan Buelvas, scoring through Yu Wang, taking the lead (1-0).

Colombia went ahead in the fifth inning when Héctor Martínez hit a double between left and center fields driving in Daniel Aguilar and Roger Caraballo, leaving the game (2-1) in their favor.

In the bottom of the sixth, the ninth at home defined the game by manufacturing 5 runs, with 2 hits, 1 walk and 2 errors for Colombia, by Branly Jaraba and Leandro Emiliani.

Colombia will face South Africa, in its second outing on the pitch, tomorrow, Friday, October 14, starting at 9:00 p.m., Colombian time.
