“Cross-Strait Family Family” painting, horizontal electric flanged butterfly valve for south-to-north water transfer, commemorative bat for “Cross-Strait Baseball Family Family”, white paper “Taiwan Issue and China’s Reunification in the New Era”, residence permit for Taiwan residents… These exhibits appeared in the Beijing exhibition In the museum, a new story of the integration and development of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait in the new era is told to the audience.
As the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China is about to be held, the achievement exhibition on the theme of “Forging for a New Era” is being held in Beijing, presenting the extraordinary achievements since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China. A reporter from China News Agency recently visited the exhibition and found that among the large number of items on display, there are 56 photos, 49 real objects and related audio and video, which have witnessed the new progress of cross-strait exchanges in the past ten years and demonstrated the new achievements of the mainland’s work on Taiwan.
Walking through the outdoor exhibition area, a horizontal electric flange butterfly valve with a height of 2.4 meters and a weight of 5.2 tons came into view first. This product is manufactured by Shanghai Guanlong Valve Energy-saving Equipment Co., Ltd., a Taiwan-funded enterprise. It is used for two-way opening and closing of water pipes and flow regulation. It has a high technical standard and has been used in the supporting project of the middle line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in the mainland. It is a Taiwanese enterprise. Active participation in the mainland’s economic and social development process is a vivid manifestation.
In the section of the exhibition “Adhering to ‘One Country, Two Systems’ and Promoting the Reunification of the Motherland”, a commemorative bat printed with the words “Baseball on both sides of the Strait as one family” is quite distinctive. This was presented to the league by the Cross-Strait Baseball Exchange and Cooperation Committee at the opening ceremony of the first Cross-Strait Student Baseball League held at Tsinghua University in 2017. The league has been held for three consecutive years, and young people from both sides of the strait have adhered to the concept of “opponents on the field, brothers off the field”, and have left many warm and beautiful memories with the ball.
The exhibition also displayed the white paper “The Taiwan Issue and China’s Unification in the New Era” (Chinese and English versions). The white paper was released in August this year. It is the third white paper to comprehensively and systematically elaborate on the Taiwan issue after the two white papers, “The Taiwan Issue and China’s Reunification” and “The One-China Principle and the Taiwan Issue,” were published in August 1993 and February 2000, respectively. A sample certificate of Taiwan resident residence permit also appeared in the exhibition, and photos of Taiwan compatriots with the certificate experiencing the convenience of ticket purchase are also displayed above the exhibition. It is this little card that adds a sense of belonging to the lives of the majority of Taiwan compatriots in the mainland, and Taiwan compatriots also fully enjoy the convenience of life it brings.
The “Measures for the Application and Issuance of Residence Permits for Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Residents” was officially implemented in 2018. Taiwan compatriots who meet the conditions can apply for a residence permit for Taiwan residents of the People’s Republic of China. 3 rights including social insurance, 6 basic public services including compulsory education and basic public employment services, and 9 conveniences including taking domestic flights, trains and other means of transportation on the mainland.
In the exhibition hall, a brightly colored painted wall attracted many viewers to stop to appreciate and take pictures. The painting is about 13 square meters, and the upper left is printed with the verse of “Breakfast in Xiamen, lunch in Kinmen. Drinking water from the same river, family on both sides of the strait”, painted with Xiamen University, World Trade Center, red brick ancient house, Zheng Chenggong statue, Chenghuang Temple, The Yuelou and other scenic spots in Xiamen and Gold show the bright vision of future electricity and bridge connection between the two sides of the strait.
This painting, titled “One Family on both sides of the Taiwan Strait”, originates from the story of artists on both sides of the Taiwan Strait who painted walls of the same name in Xiamen and Kinmen communities. At the 3rd Creative Graffiti Grand Prix of the Straits Forum in 2021, mainland artists created and painted the wall graffiti work “A Day Trip to the Straits” in Xiamen, which greatly infected Kinmen artists, so they “re-created” in the local community. The painted walls of the same name in the Jin and Jin districts echo each other from a distance, which has made a good story of “one family on both sides of the strait”.
There is a special message area for painted paintings, and visitors write on it: “Hurry home and wait for you to eat”, “Mother motherland is waiting for you”, “Go back to the motherland, we miss you”. (Finish)
