Davis Cup: Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov will participate in the Finals with Canada

MONTREAL – Canada will be able to count on Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov, its two highest-ranked ATP players, in view of the Davis Cup Finals, which will be held from November 22 to 27 in Malaga, Spain.

Tennis Canada made the announcement in a press release on Friday morning. Incidentally, the organization specified that Vasek Pospisil, Alexis Galarneau and Gabriel Diallo will complete the Canadian team.

The Davis Cup elimination stage will begin with the presentation of the quarter-finals in which eight countries will take part, namely Canada, Italy, the United States, Germany, Australia, the Netherlands, Croatia and Spain.

On November 24, the maple leaf will face Germany as a curtain raiser. A victory for Team Canada will then put it against the winner of the meeting between the United States and Italy.

In Auger-Aliassime (10th), Shapovalov (20th) and Pospisil (121st), Canada can count on three players who were part of the only Canadian team to reach the Davis Cup final in Madrid in 2019.

Moreover, these three players have had some good times over the past few weeks, especially Auger-Aliassime. The Montrealer signed impressive victories against world number one Carlos Alcaraz, Serbian Novak Djokovic and against Matteo Berrettini, 15th player in the world.

Auger-Aliassime also won the second tournament of his career, last Sunday in Florence.

Galarneau and Diallo respectively occupy the 218th and 250th world ranks.

“It’s a privilege for our team and our country to be back in the final stages of the Davis Cup,” said Frank Dancevic, captain of the Canadian team.

“We are also very excited about the return of Denis to our team,” added Dancevic. This adds depth to our team which is very much looking forward to defending the colors of Canada in the finals. »
