The qualification groups for the 2024 European Football Championship have been drawn. Germany was not part of the draw – but there is a simple explanation for that.
Frankfurt – Die WM 2022 is just around the corner, but the EM 2024 is not too far away either. On Sunday, October 9th, the draw for the qualifying groups took place in the Frankfurt Festhalle. Germany was not drawn – because the tournament takes place in Germany. The host does not have to qualify.
That DFB-Team could have taken part in the qualification, but decided against it. “This gives us the greatest possible flexibility when organizing the international game phases next year,” said DFB Managing Director Oliver Bierhoff, explaining the decision.
