CANCÚN, Q. ROO.- Edwin ‘Pajarito’ Sánchez, former professional player of the extinct Pioneros de Quintana Roo, told lights of the century the desire that the community has to once again have a team in the National Professional Basketball League (LNBP).

“The state needs to return to professional basketball, a lot is played here, there are many girls and boys who play throughout the state and it is necessary to have a representative team, it is crying out, it would be a great thing for the entire state to once again have a professional team and that would be a motivation for the new generations and society in general, since it creates a great healthy and family environment”, commented Sánchez Pinto who was part of the Americas Championship with the ‘Bombarderos’ in Argentina 2012.

The former national team proposes Playa del Carmen as the venue for a professional team, having a territorial connection in the state and growth in sports infrastructure.

“Hopefully with the new state administration, they take it into account and can open that opportunity to have professional basketball again. In Playa del Carmen, the Poliforum has just been remodeled, thanks to the municipal authorities, it is a very good building and also, due to its geographical location, it would be a good option since fans could come from the north and south of the state, as well as from Cozumel, having more recruitment of people. It is a dream that many of us have, now we have an ideal scenario and we hope that there can be a union of both private initiative and government so that it can happen, ”he added.

Edwin has been immersed in basketball for nearly 20 years, 10 of them as a player in teams such as Venados de Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Dorados de Playa and Delfines de Chetumal in their beginnings. He was also part of the Jaguares of the Autonomous University of Yucatan (UADY), Mayas of Yucatan, Garzas de Plata de Pachuca, Mineros de Zacatecas, Gambusinos de Fresnillo, participated in the Pacific League and finished his career with the Pioneers of Quintana Roo. .

Currently, he is still active as coach of the Dorados de Playa del Carmen, a champion team in the Quintana Roo Basketball Circuit.
