Vicenza will host the arrival of the Giro del Veneto 2022, the cycling classic for professionals, which will take place on Wednesday 12 October, starting from Padua. The final circuit will see two passages along corso Palladio before the finish line in viale Roma.
The 85th edition of the competition is organized by PP Sport Events, a company of which Filippo Pozzato is general manager, in collaboration with the Municipality of Vicenza and the Municipalities involved in the passage of the competition.
In the city sections affected by the transit of cyclists, important changes to traffic will be implemented, with possible widespread slowdowns. The route is visible at the link: https://bit.ly/GiroDelVeneto22.
85th Giro del Veneto: route
Re-proposed in 2021, after nine years of absence, the race will see the best international athletes compete in an exciting itinerary of about 160 kilometers between the Euganean and Berici hills, with a total altitude difference of 1,500 meters. The route will wind through the historical and architectural beauties of the city and the Berici hills, passing in front of Villa La Rotonda and through the uphill road on the Military Road.
In the first section, the military road of Arcugnano will be traveled to reach the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Monte Berico, from where the descent towards the city center will begin, through the streets of the historic center, including Corso Palladio. We will then return to Arcugnano, through the Riviera Berica and the Tormeno road, to resume the military road and thus repeat the same circuit three consecutive times, until the end of the race in viale Roma.
Route and timetables in detail
The route in the municipality of Vicenza (coming from Arcugnano-dorsale dei Berici), will cover viale X Giugno, viale Dante Alighieri, viale Fusinato, via Maganza, via Vaccari, via Rossi, via Ferreto de Ferreti, viale Verona, corso SS Felice and Fortunato, viale Milano, piazzale della Stazione, up to viale Roma, in the time slot between 14.50 and 15.10 for the first tour.
The second round will continue on viale Roma towards piazzale De Gasperi, corso Palladio, Levà and Ponte degli Angeli, contra ‘San Pietro, viale Margherita, via dello Stadio, through the roundabout and the railway underpass, viale Riviera Berica, strada del Tormeno towards Arcugnano and strada Militare, between 3.10 pm and 3.30 pm, to then return to Vicenza, repeating the entry route of the first round, between approximately 3.10 pm and 4.15 pm.
Traffic changes
The road network will be heavily affected by the transit of the race, especially in the south-east quadrants and the historic center. Slowdowns and disruptions to circulation will be possible.
Based on the progress of the competition, a ban on vehicles on the roads involved in the route will be progressively established, with a ban on parking on all stalls along the route from the morning.
All the lateral ones that pertain to the race course will be closed to transit or will undergo different discipline.
Viale Roma will be closed from 6 am, from the intersection with the station square at the exit from the Verdi car park, with the consequent suppression of bus stops; in addition, the viale Bologna car park will be reserved for the organization’s vehicles. Viale Mazzini is also partially closed to traffic, in order to allow competition activities at the parking lot of the Municipal Theater, closed since the morning.
There are deviations for the urban and extra-urban bus routes. The train station and the Svt bus station will not be reachable by car.
For information on bus lines you can consult the Svt website www.svt.vi.it.
