Gyeongsangnam-do’s ‘Great Festival’ is held

Gyeongnam Athletic Association, held for 3 days at Changwon Sports Park from the 21st

[아시아경제 영남취재본부 김욱 기자] The ’33rd Gyeongsangnam-do Life Sports Festival’, a sports competition for the harmony of Gyeongnam residents, will be held in Changwon Special City for three days, starting with the opening ceremony at 5:30 pm on the 21st at the Changwon Sports Park Main Stadium.

For the first time in three years due to the prolonged corona virus, 15,588 athletes from 18 cities and counties in the province will participate in 31 sports (official 27, demonstration 4), the largest ever.

As for the scale of participation by city and county, 816 from Jinju, 792 from Changwon, 730 from Gimhae, 663 from Haman, 562 from Changnyeong, and 538 from Namhae from the military. By sport, 868 players will participate in soccer, 754 players in gateball, and 615 players in badminton.

Gyeongnam Athletic Association President Kim Oh-young said, “For all of us living in this age, making sports a part of our daily lives is no longer an option, but a necessity. Gyeongnam will be happy only when all residents are happy.”

He added, “I hope that all residents of the island will be able to lead a healthy and happy life through this Sports Festival.”
