Velbert. Judo bronze goes to Tönisheide: Judith Erpelding from the Velbert Judo Club took third place at the German Championships.

Judith Erpelding won the bronze medal in her weight class up to 78 kilograms at the U21 women’s championship. It’s a double success for Erpelding: the girl from Tönisheide fought her way back into the tournament about a year and a half ago after tearing her cruciate ligament – and is now rewarded with third place.

Through a lot of training she reached the national top. In the U18 she had already taken seventh place at the German Championships. In Frankfurt an der Oder, where the title fights took place, she now won the longed-for medal. After a bye in the first round, Erpelding lost to the reigning and new German champion. In the consolation round and after a quick victory through a counterattack, we went into the small final. There she met Lena Maric from Traunreut in Bavaria. After superior combat, she managed to win with a hip throw that ended the encounter prematurely.

“Judith deserves the bronze medal because she has always worked hard and continuously to improve herself,” says coach Swen Collas. He was overjoyed that Erpelding was rewarded for their work.
