By extending his contract at PSG, Kylian Mbappé entered the history of sport. And for good reason, the Parisian striker has signed up for three seasons, with the last optional, for a total of around €630m gross. An amount that quite simply makes the French international the highest paid athlete of all time. Just that.

€630m. This is the insane amount, gross, that Kylian Mbappe could receive if he honors his three-year contract with the PSGas revealed The Parisian. A sum which is divided as follows. The French striker first receives an estimated annual salary of €72m gross while he will also recover €180m in several instalments. It is effectively a signing bonus paid in three installments of €60 million. Finally, if he remains faithful to the PSG, Kylian Mbappe will also receive a total of €240 million. A loyalty bonus paid at the end of each summer transfer window if he stays in Paris. In September, he thus received 70M€. In a year, it will be 80M€ if he is still at PSG then €90 million in 2024.

Mbappé signs the biggest contract in sports history

The PSG therefore pulled out all the stops to convince Kylian Mbappe who simply signed the biggest contract in the history of the sport. With €630m over three years, the French striker is ahead of another player in the PSG to know Lionel Messi which had extended to FC Barcelona in 2017 for a total of €555m, but over 4 years. For the rest of the ranking, revealed by The Parisian, you have to turn to the United States, which is much more accustomed to this kind of insane contracts. Thus, the NFL star, Patrick Mahomes, completes the podium. The Quarterback of Kansas City Chiefs extended his contract in 2020 for €510m, but over 10 years. Come next Floyd Mayweather who had garnered 456M€ for six fights in the space of 30 months, i.e. two and a half years, and Mike Troutwho signed up in 2019 with the LA Angels baseball franchise for 12 years and €432 million. Canelo Alvarez (Boxing, €370m over 5 years), Mookie Betts (Baseball, LA Dodgers, 370M€ sur 12ans), Francis Lindor (Baseball, NY Mets, €246m over 10 years), Fernando Tatis Jr. (Baseball, San Diego Parents€345m over 14 years) and Bryce Harper (Baseball, Philadelphia Phillies, €335m over 13 years) complete the top 10 dominated by Kylian Mbappe.

Already far ahead of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo

Therefore, the attacker PSG dominates a ranking largely made up of sportsmen outside of football. And in the top 10 footballers, the gaps are abysmal. Kylian Mbappe thus ahead of Lionel Messi, as explained above, and another player from the PSG. In effect, Neymar has received 267M€ since his arrival in Paris in 2017, therefore in six years. That is almost 2.5 times less than Kylian Mbappe, in three times as long. Comes next Cristiano Ronaldo who occupies the fourth and fifth position of this classification with his contract at Real Madrid (220M€ over 5 years) then that at Juventus (220M€ over 4 years). Finally, Gareth Bale (Real Madrid, €178m over 6 years) and Paul Pogba (Manchester United, €113m over 5 years) complete this ranking. Kylian Mbappe therefore clearly goes down in history with his contract. It remains to be seen whether he will also do so on the pitch.
