NBA: Canadian Andrew Wiggins hits the jackpot

The Golden State Warriors have secured the services of Canadian star Andrew Wiggins until 2027.

The defending NBA champion has signed a four-year, $109 million contract extension with the 27-year-old Ontario athlete, ESPN network pundit Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Saturday.

Representing the highest-earning Maple Leaf in the Silver circuit in 2022, Wiggins will earn an average annual salary of $28.6 million over the next five campaigns.

A former first overall pick in the 2014 auction, Wiggins earned his first championship ring last spring. It capped off a dream year, during which he also participated in the All-Star Game as a starter for the Western Conference.

Wiggins averaged 17.2 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists in 2022.

He also played for the Minnesota Timberwolves during his seven season career.

Earlier in the day, the Warriors also agreed to a four-year, $140 million deal with point guard Jordan Poole.
