Three touchdowns in three games is far from an offensive performance.

Tom Brady knows he and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to be better, starting tonight in a highly anticipated Sunday night game against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs, who are having no trouble scoring points.

It’s the first meeting between the two Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks since the Bucs beat the Chiefs in the NFL title game two seasons ago.

The intrigue is all the greater as the match is being played in Tampa, the day after Hurricane Ian, which swept through Florida in a destructive manner earlier this week.

“I’ve always felt that sport brought people together. […] I’ve always had the impression that sport brings people together… Observing the different disasters, whether it’s 9/11 or [l’ouragan] Katrina, sport has an amazing way of healing wounds, bringing people and communities together,” Brady said.

“I think anytime you can be part of something like that, it’s a great feeling. It means a lot to us to have the opportunity to play for our fans,” added Brady. “But after what so many people have been through in the state, it’s great to play and give them a reason to celebrate. »

The Bucs (2-1) traveled to South Florida to avoid direct contact with the storm, using the Miami Dolphins training facility to prepare to face the Chiefs (2-1).

They are having a good start to the season, despite their difficulties on the offensive level. Injuries have played a part in those misses, but Brady isn’t using that as an excuse for the team having more turnovers (four) than offensive touchdowns (three) so far.

“We’re down to three games. I think we realize there are things we haven’t done very well that we need to fix,” Brady conceded.

“No matter who’s in the game, we have to do a better job of scoring points,” the seven-time Super Bowl champion admitted. “It comes down to a lot of things – penalties, turnovers, making the right play, executing the play. If we do that, I believe we will score points. »

Like the Bucs, the Chiefs are coming off their first loss of the season. Tampa Bay limited Kansas City to three field goals the last time the two teams met, and head coach Todd Bowles’ defense has only gotten better since then.

“They’ve got one of the best defenses, if not the best,” said Mahomes, who is looking to rebound from a 20-17 road loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
