Among the Czech goalkeepers, Pavel Francouz also intervened in the game and supported Colorado’s 3:1 win in Dallas with 38 hits. He was rewarded with a second star of the match award for his performance. Dominik Kubalík’s goal and Filip Zadina’s assist were not enough for Detroit, which lost to Pittsburgh 2:3 at home.
Columbus, playing without Jakub Voráček and David Jiříček, led with a shot from Yegor Činačov, but Jesperi Kotkaniemi, Stefan Noesen and Derek Stepan turned the score around in the first period. Nečas had a hand in all three of Carolina’s goals in the middle period. The Czech striker made it 5:1 and Brent Burns and Brady Skjei scored after his passes. Stepan and Nečas in the 58th minute underlined the victory in the third period.
“He played well, that’s not surprising,” Carolina coach Rod Brind’Amour commented on Necas’ four-point night. “I don’t see any difference in his game, it’s always been there. But it’s still just preparation, so it’s necessary for him to continue it even in tough matches,” he added.
Carolina also won the fourth game before the start of the regular season. “The whole preparation is good. We have a lot of excellent players that we could play with two teams. Everyone is working hard and that’s good,” said Nečas, who collected six points (3+3) in the last two games.
The only goal in New Jersey was scored by Tomáš Tatar in the 11th minute, and his shot was enough for the home team, as Vaněček was bulletproof. “He didn’t have much, but he caught a solo breakaway and kept his cool when we had a bad substitution and forgot about a free player. The opponent also had a few runs and he handled everything. When a goalkeeper holds you like that, it gives the team a decent chance to win,” he said Devils coach Linda Ruff to Vaneček.
The Czech goalkeeper, who was traded from Washington in the summer, allowed only three goals from 55 shots in three starts. Jakub Lauko also tested him with two attempts on Monday, the other Czech player in the Boston jersey, Tomáš Nosek, recorded only one loss of the puck in the statistics. Ondřej Palát did not start in the winners’ lineup.
In Dallas, all goals came in the third period. Artturi Lehkonen guided Colorado to victory with two goals, while Nils Lundkvist deprived the French of a clean sheet in the 56th minute. The defending champion, in whose jersey Martin Kaut and Lukáš Sedlák played, sealed the victory with a shot from Evan Rodrigues into an empty net. The home side’s third attack was led by Radek Faksa, who occupied the French with two shots.
Pittsburgh led 3-0 in Detroit after two periods with goals from Bryn Rust, who punished the suspensions of Jakub Vrana, Josh Archibald and Jason Zucker. But the last twenty minutes belonged to the home team. Vrána hit the post first, but a moment later Kubalík lowered it from the stop and scored his third goal in the preparation. Even with Zadin’s assist, Dylan Larkin dramatized the match in the 58th minute, but the score did not change after that.
Toronto, with Filip Král in defense, won 5:1 in Montreal. Other matches were played without Czech participation. Nashville beat the home team 4:3 in Bern in the NHL preseason thanks to captain Roman Josi. The Swiss full-back scored two goals and an assist against his parent club. Thanks to Dylan Holloway’s hat trick, Edmonton defeated Vancouver 7:2, and Calgary, with goalkeeper Daniel Vladar on the bench, beat Seattle 4:1.
