NICOLEÑAS PRESENCES AT THE MARPLATENSE BASKETBALL PARTY

Last night Peñarol and Quilmes met in a friendly, reissuing the most important classic in Argentine basketball. There were three Nicoleños on the court. And another in the Match of the Legends that was played in the previous one before 5,000 people.

In Mar del Plata, Peñarol narrowly beat his neighbor Quilmes 68-61 (19-7, 34-23 and 47-48) in a pre-season match that took place at the Islas Malvinas Sports Center, organized to celebrate this year’s the 100 years of life of both institutions.

Al Thornton (21) and Joaquín Valinotti (16) for Peñarol and Luis Cequeira (14) and Tomás Nally (13) for Quilmes, were the main scorers in a process dominated by inaccuracies, which had two completely different halves and was played against about five thousand people. There were three Nicoleños in this meeting.

In Peñarol, José Defelippo was part of the group, and in Quilmes, Gregorio Eseverri and Genaro Calcaterra.

Together with the main match, the Legends Match was held between former players and ended 56-56. Peñarol -with Teodoro Michalopulos among its ranks- was directed by Sergio Hernández and Quilmes by Oscar Sánchez.

For Quilmes played: Eduardo Dominé, Pablo Gil, Alexander Allegretti, Stephen De la Fountain, Cesar Rodriguez, Alexander Maffia, Diego Cavcao, Claudio Chiappero, Leandro Ginobili and Pedro Calderon. Marcelo Peralta, Guillermo Garcia Oyaga, Luis Fernandez, Daniel Cotignola and Edgardo Martinez were substituted but did not enter.

For Peñarol played: Lucas Picarelli, Tato Rodriguez, Mariano Franco, Nicholas Lauria, Adolph Perazzo, Fernando Rodriguez, Carlos Romano, Pablo Barrios, Eduardo Tabbia, Sebastian Festa, Theodore Michalopulos, Leonardo Zanassi, Esteban Terzzoli, Daniel Ludi, Jorge Gonzalez, Nestor Pasetti and John Manuel Locatelli.



During the event, a minute of silence was held due to the death of the legendary training coach Osvaldo Echevarría (26 years in Kimberley and 21 in Peñarol) which occurred hours before. Echevarría managed Peñarol on an interim basis in the National League 1991/92 and 2003/04.

For the Quadrangular City of Santiago del Estero, Quimsa and Riachuelo managed to pass to the final. La Fusión -under the technical direction of Manuel Córdoba- beat Tucumán Básquet 100-57, with 12 points from Brandon Robinson and Eric Anderson, while those from La Rioja beat Independiente de Santiago del Estero 98-75, with 16 units by Tomás Zanzottera and 15 by Mariano Fierro.
In another friendly, Platense and Ferro faced each other in Vicente López, with Calamar winning 95-80, with 18 points from Sebastián Morales, 17 from Nicola Pomoli and 16 from nicoleño Víctor Fernández.
