Oviedo hosts this weekend the V Iberdrola Women’s Badminton Cup. World Asturias

Oviedo/Uviéu.- The Councilor for Sports, Concepción Méndez, presented this morning the fifth edition of the Iberdrola Women’s Badminton Cup that will be held this weekend at the Manuel Novo Sports Center in Tudela Agüeria. The event will attract some 150 people to the Asturian capital, including athletes and staff from the 12 participating clubs: among them, Seville, Soria, Huelva, Alicante, Orense, Pontevedra, Valencia, Gijón and of course Oviedo, whose team has already raised two of these trophies.

For Andoni Azurmendi, president of the Spanish Badminton Federation, it was “almost an obligation” to celebrate this new edition in the Asturian capital “both because of the tradition it has in this sport and because of the highest level of its players, including Kristina Sotomayor, MVP of the year 2020 and league champion” who fortunately managed to flee the war in Ukraine during her maternity leave to continue playing at the Oviedo Badminton Club.

The head of the Oviedo team, Nicolás García, has thanked the collaboration of the national, Asturian and Basque federations as well as that of the City Council to offer a new edition of this cup in Oviedo. A competition in which its players “will go all out trying to do their best and win if possible”.
