PRO Gentlemen: roll the dice again

On September 20, it was the opening of the 2022/2023 season of the PRO A men’s championship. A season that promises to be exciting with exceptional density linked to the arrival of many quality players this summer. The Wolves of Angers, double holders of the title, renew the same team to try to get a third consecutive title, a first in the history of the PRO A gentlemen.

The first day

For the first day, the Angevins, still coached by David PILARD, won against the promoted Thorigné-Fouillard with the score of 3 to 0. Beyond the victory, it was an opportunity for the club to receive the trophy of Champion of France 2021/2022 in front of his public and in the presence of many local and federal elected officials.

The Caennais, vice-champion of France, were surprised by a solid team from Saint-Denis with a score of 1 to 3. The leader and world No. 38 of Caen TTC, Yang WANG, will not have succeeded in imposing his game by losing to Par GERELL (n°21 FFTT) and Medhi BOULOUSSA (n°42 FFTT).

Despite the electric atmosphere of Kindarena, SPO Rouen suffered their first defeat this season against GV Hennebont TT. Despite a good resistance offered by the Rouennais, Hennebont won with the score of 3 to 2. It must be said that the Bretons achieved a large-scale transfer window with the arrival of Kristian KARLSSON (world No. 18) and Chuang CHIH -YUAN (world No. 16) to make up for their departures.

On the side of the Jura Morez TT, it is a new victory after that of the advanced meeting counting for the J2 against the C’Chartres TT (3-1). Victorious at home with a score of 3 to 2 against AS Pontoise-Cergy TT, the Jurassians are currently leading the championship. With the reinforcement of Lim JONGHOON (n°19), who won against Marcos FREITAS but also against Esteban DORR, the club, third last year, is already showing that it will be necessary to count on him to play the title this season.

Finally, the 5th meeting of the first day opposed La Romagne SS and C’Chartres TT. A very close meeting which finally tipped in favor of the Chartrains. La Romagne SS lost in the “money time” during the last match between Léo DE NODREST (La Romagne SS) and Yuta TANAKA (Chartres TT). The Japanese brings the decisive point of the meeting for a 3-2 victory. The latter confirms his status as leader of the team by also winning against Tianyuan CHEN (n°10 FFTT).
