The Sept-Îles Judo Academy and its elite judokas were in Quebec last weekend for their first competition this season. The Daniel Hardy Cup was not only the first step in the selection process for the 2023 Canadian Championships, but it also served as a qualifier for the Canada Games.
At the end of the competition, the Septiliennes Sara-Anne Beaudin and Amélie Martin find themselves substitutes for the 2023 Canada Games which will take place in Prince Edward Island from February 18 to March 5.
The two judokas finished in second place in their weight category at the U19 Daniel Hardy Cup, Beaudin at -57 kg, Martin at -70.
Sara Anne was awarded gold in the U12/Senior category.
The Academy has two other gold medalists from the Quebec competition, Medric Duguay in the U12s, minus 42 kg, and Leanne Martin in the U14s, minus 57 kg.
The other Septilien medalists are, silver winners, François-Xavier Beaudin and Leiya Chiasson, and bronze winners, Laurence Dubé and Gabriel Martin.
The only participant from the Port-Cartier Judokan Club, Sophie Lapointe ranked third in the U21/Senior category.
“A good tournament to start a new year in normality, good performances for many, a little more difficult for others. Several young people have changed categories and must tame the upper class,” said the technical director of the Académie de judo de Sept-Îles, David Beaudin.
Judokas from the Academy will return to the tatamis for the Omnium du Québec, in Montreal, on November 5 and 6.
