Tessa Wullaert, between hopes and bitterness: “At the Euro, the Flames wrote history but recognition does not follow in Belgium”

A Anderlecht, she was the only “pro” in the core. At Fortuna Sittard (Netherlands), the 19 girls of this brand new formation are all under contract. Transferred this summer Tessa Wullaert will receive the most important salary of her career there, while she has evolved to Wolfsburg et Manchester City notably. But if she left the Mauves, where she flew over our competition, it was for other reasons, and not all good ones. Our triple Soulier d’or is bitter: too little means and recognition for the championship and for the national team.

However, the feat of Red Flames at the English Euro, she is very proud of it: a quarter-final with one of the rare teams where 80% of the workforce is not professional, it’s “enormous” as she says. But on the return to Zaventem, the welcome was very disappointing!

I’ve always tried to use my voice to get things done, but “they” don’t always listen, they’re men!” she slips us.

But football is the business of her life: playing the locomotives at Fortuna Sittard and carrying the Flames to the next World Cup are the two goals that keep Tessa running.
