The Cursa Popular del Carrer Nou incorporates digital certificates that can be collected with the time of each runner

The traditional popular race of new streetwhich will take place on Sunday 16 October, will be the first in the city to use the NFT (non-fungible tokens) to authenticate runners’ times in competitive events (the miles and 5km and 10km events) and create a collectable digital asset. As reported Instant Photo, technical organizer of the legendary Girona trade race, participants will be able to acquire this year and for the first time in the history of the city’s races, their collectable digital asset (NFT). This NFT is the digital certification that contains the time taken by the participant at the end of the test, his number and name, as well as a commemorative 3D medal of the edition. The aim is to offer runners the opportunity to create their own ‘album’ of accomplished sporting challenges.

The trade race: Girona tradition and popular essence

The popular Carrer Nou de Girona race was born in 1979 on the initiative of a few merchants who wanted to give life to their street and make a gift to the city. The resources were scarce, but the push of the creators, the collaboration of the institutions and the desire to run of the people of Girona made up for all the shortcomings. The race reaches its 42nd anniversary this year with the same spirit with which it was born and proud of the attributes it has gained over time: the oldest, the most popular and the liveliest of the Girona counties. Its regulations say verbatim: “the race will be open to all people, without limit of age, sex or nationality. It’s a race for walkers, athletes and walkers.” Certainly, the passage of time and the improvements that have been introduced every year in the organization have not damaged this popular essence. And the fact that the race is born and dies in one of Girona’s most emblematic streets has contributed to its preservation.
