Union Berlin’s deservedly acclaimed defense had a difficult afternoon in Bochum. The home team put a lot of pressure and Union was rarely able to play down.
It also resulted in Bochum’s first goal, a header by Philipp Hofmann.
After the break, Bochum first tested the goal frame, before Gerrit Holtmann made it 2-0 after a quick counter. It is only the 2nd time this season that Union has more than 1 goal.
At Union Berlin, the danger came from ex-Bochum striker Milos Pantovic. Unfortunately for him, his ex-goal colleague Manuel Riemann knew his habits, which saw Pantovic save his penalty.
In the extra time, Bayern’s youth product was still able to score, but much too late. Union remains the leader, but the difference with the inevitable Bayern has shrunk to 1 point.
