It happened on Thursday, October 20. The students of the Saint-Joseph college in Longué-Jumelles organized a nature outing. The theme was “hunting, from tracking to the plate”.
Ismaël Lwriter, who is the contact person for the Federation of Maine-et-Loire hunters, came to the college site so that the students of 6th Option Nature could have a first approach to the world of hunting. This first approach allowed them to understand how our department was organized. Whether in its variety of soils, forests, crops, generating a diversity of animals; but also how a hunting plan was decided with the management of species in recrudescence or in difficulty. The goal was to understand what were the different missions of the hunters throughout the year.
An unforgettable outing
To get this outing off to a good start, the coach took them to Vernoil-le-Fourrier. This place is the property of Stéphane Portier. It is none other than the organizer of the traditional hunting festival on August 15. It is therefore a very beautiful place on which workshops have been linked. On the program for this day, archery. The college students were able to aim at 3D targets with the help of Patrick Renvasé as well as Jean-Paul Fonteneau, the president of the Chasse à l’Arc association. The purpose of this activity was to make them understand that in the field, if you are not sure of hitting the animal, you refrain from shooting.
It was after having identified the stuffed animals, made available to them, that they left for the forest to discover the traces of passage left by the animals. Traces such as feathers, droppings, footprints, burrows, antler smears etc.
One workshop was also cancelled. That of making a flight hunting demonstration. As Philippe Justeau explained: “we couldn’t make the hawks fly with the context of avian flu”.
The college students still had the chance to taste, before their picnic, spreads of game terrines as an aperitif. The goal is to educate their palate a little on the subtle taste of deer with hazelnuts, wild boar, pheasant, etc.
This day will certainly remain a very beautiful memory for the students of the nature option, of the Saint-Joseph colleges.
