the two Breton derbies under tension

The authorities will (perhaps) have a lot to do this weekend during the Breton derbies, opposing Rennes to Nantes and Brest to Lorient.

With Rennes-Nantes and Brest-Lorient, the authorities are preparing for two Breton derbies under tension on Sunday in Ligue 1, with management complicated in both cases by penalties for closing the stands.

On Saturday, Breton activists will deploy a huge Gwenn ha Du flag on the Place du Parlement de Bretagne in Rennes and debate regional autonomy during these derbies. But on Sunday, it is above all local antagonisms that are likely to be expressed.

In Rennes, the visitor parking lot will be closed by decision of the Disciplinary Committee of the Professional Football League (LFP) after the cracking of smoke bombs by Canary fans during Lorient-Nantes on September 11.

But as many Nantes supporters will find a place in the other stands, the prefecture has issued an order prohibiting them from displaying their colors (shirt, scarf, etc.) around the stadium – a now frequent measure – and even in the stadium. .

About 120 police officers and 500 security guards and stewards will be mobilized for this match classified “at risk” in category 3 by the national division for the fight against hooliganism (DNLH) and which should be played in a full stadium.

In Brest, it is the Ultras stand that will be closed after a series of incidents, including an object thrown at an official during Brest-Strasbourg, on September 4 and the match is classified in category 4 by the DNLH .

Given a heavy liability between the supporters of Brest and Lorient, the club announced on Friday its choice to also close the opposite stand, which adjoins the visitor parking lot, to prevent Ultras from taking their place there.

The club is risking a lot in the event of new incidents since the LFP disciplinary committee imposed a one-point suspended suspension.

The feared tensions could also be fueled by the stakes of the two matches: Rennes are in ascending form and Lorient are on the water, while Nantes are in difficulty in the standings and Brest in full doubt.
