The XXI Villa de Avilés International Judo Tournament has closed this weekend with a total of 1,200 participants from 200 different clubs, according to data provided by RTPA (Radio Television of the Principality of Asturias).

Mariví Monteserín, mayor of Avilés, describes the tournament as «a formula in which we all win: the Federation, judo, the hotel industry, the hotel industry and the economic revitalization of the entire environment, not only Avilés, it affects the entire region and I know that there are people also housed in Gijón and Oviedo». The tournament attracts a greater number of travelers in low season, which “invigorates economic activity at a time when it is necessary to fight on all fronts,” according to the mayor.

Adrián Barbón, president of the Principality, yesterday attended the final of the under 15 children’s category and participated in the award ceremony.
