Casimir Schmidt and Loran de Munck have secured a place in the final at the World Gymnastics Championships in Liverpool. At the Nations Cup, the Dutch team, with Jordi Hagenaar, Martijn de Veer and Jermain Grünberg, in addition to De Munck and Schmidt, did not reach the final.
De Munck set a score of 14.833 points in the vaulting section, on which he grabbed the silver at the last European Championship. With that he goes fourth in the standings to the final, which is led by Rhys McClenaghan from Ireland (15.233).
Schmidt has qualified ninth with 82.565 for the final of the all-around. The Japanese Wataru Tanigawa is in the lead (84,731).
Nations Cup
In the Nations Cup, the Netherlands turned in a total of 242,060 points, good for a thirteenth place. That was not enough for a place in the final, the best eight teams qualify for the final. Japan is first in the country ranking with 260,695 points.
“We held up well today. I estimate that a fourteenth place will be feasible,” said acting national coach Dirk van Meldert after the Dutch gymnasts had been in action. “The target was top-18 and one final, so if weird things don’t happen anymore, we have certainly achieved that.”
