Judo | Arthur Distel gets qualification for the German championship

The runner-up at the state screening tournament in Lünen, Arthur Distel (TB Wülfrath), lost his opening battle at the West German U21 championship. The consolation round continued. With two premature victories, the Wülfrather was able to fight for 3rd place and qualified for his first German championship in Frankfurt/aO.

His two brothers Roman (-66kg) and Konstantin (-73kg) competed in the international Bayer Cup. After their weight class and age group change to the U 17 Roman, both were already able to achieve great results at the state inspection tournament two weeks ago. In Leverkusen with international competition Konstantin fought for an excellent third place for the first year. “Roman only failed at two Belgian athletes and showed that he can still be counted on”, praise the TBW experts. In the end it was enough for a good 7th place.

Nominated by the association, Sophie Püchel started at the EJU European Cup in Celje up to 57 kg.

The measure was about the European Championship qualification for the U23. After a strong opening match against an Azerbaijani athlete, the pool final was lost to the later Polish winner. In her next fight against a Swiss, the student showed herself stronger again after a long tournament break after a corona infection. After an early deficit, Sophie fought her way back over the entire duration of the fight and kept the match very exciting until the end. The woman from Wülfrath showed that she can fight with the European elite, because the TBWlerinn lost only very narrowly against the later third-placed team. However, our athlete had to be satisfied with a good 9th place.
