The Major League Baseball (MLB) announced this Thursday the winners of the Bate de Plata 2022among which the Mexican catcher, Alejandro Kirkcon Toronto Blue Jays by american league.
The native of Tijuana, Baja California became the first catcher born in Mexico to win the awardas well as in the first player of his position to win this award in franchise history.
Now there are four players born in Mexico who have among their achievements a Silver Sluggera list that includes Fernando ‘Toro’ Valenzuela (1981, 1983), Vinicio Castile (1995, 1997, 1998) y Yovani Gallardo (2010).
Kirk finished the 2022 season of Big leagues with a .285 batting average, 14 home runs, 59 runs scored, 63 RBI and a .787 OPS in 139 games of 470 at-bats.
In addition to this appointment, the 24-year-old right-hander is nominated to be part of the 2022 All-MLB teamtogether with the Mexican pitchers Julius Uriah of Los Angeles Dodgers y Andres Muñoz of Seattle Mariners.
