The hall in the sports center was particularly full: Blau-Weiss Buchholz (BW) honored its best athletes of the past two years after a break due to Corona. “For the pandemic years 2020 and 2021, an honor for fairness reasons was very desirable in the spirit of the blue and white athletes, also to talk to each other again in a sports club community and to appreciate the achievements of the various sports,” explained BW chairman Arno Reglitzky. Hans-Hermann Damlos, as the new council of elders, presented the honors at the ceremony.
The athletic framework was provided by the teams of Caroline Grimm with hip hop and ballet, Franziska Becker with Latin dance, Jenna Eggenstein with aerobic gymnastics, Regina Bögeholz with flamenco, Susanne Tidecks with artistic gymnastics and Verena Tegtmeyer with the cheerleaders.
Athletes from ten departments who were successful in championships were honored. The other 33 departments from health sports meanwhile form the backbone of Buchholz’ largest sports club. He is proud of the great sporting achievements of the blue and whites, but also of the fact that many members have been loyal to the club for so long. 54 members were honored for 25, 40, 50 and 60 years of membership.
However, the chairman is concerned about the cost development for energy, gas and electricity. Reglitzky: “We already have high costs from building our own sports halls. After the losses caused by the pandemic lockdown, we are now experiencing a catastrophe with the explosion in electricity and gas costs.” The association cannot absorb additional costs of 100,000 euros or even more.
