Fasano. Diabetes and sport, Saturday 12 November a day to demonstrate that “Nothing is impossible”

FASANO – More sport, more health for everyone. Because together we win. It is not just a motto: it is the realization of a certainty: type 1 diabetes and physical (and competitive) activity can coexist. And they get along very well. Saturday 12 November, on the occasion of the World Diabetes Day which is celebrated every year on November 14, Fasano will host an event featuring children and young people, in particular with type 1 diabetes, and the various local sports associations. Local realities, institutions, young people, doctors and experts will compete for a day of inclusion and demonstrate that “Nothing is impossible”, as the title chosen for the open day that will open the day and which will see the various sports associations welcoming children states. and kids to offer them the opportunity to safely try out multiple disciplines.

From 10 to 12.30, in the Icos Sporting Club sports center, children can have fun with sport and will be welcomed by an exceptional testimonial: swimmer Monica Priore, the first type 1 diabetic woman in the world to swim across the Strait of Messina, Master athlete who has completed several open water competitions, an example of strength and determination in facing the obstacles that diabetes has placed in front of his path. The associations participating in the initiative and who will offer their expertise and contribution to the event will be: Tennis Club Fasano, Junior Handball Fasano, Sport Project Martial Arts, Arcieri delle Dune (Archery), Dona Five (Women’s 5-a-side football ) SC Tennis Fasano, Asd Basket, Asd Antonio Narducci Pezze di Greco (cycling), Icos Sporting Club Fasano (swimming), Us Città di Fasano (football), Olystik Training (wellness).

In the afternoon, at 4 pm, the conference “Type 1 Diabetes and Sport – A necessary and possible combination” will take place in the reception room of the Municipality of Fasano. The afternoon will continue on the topics: «Type 1 diabetes: what it is and how it manifests itself» with Dr. Elvira Piccinno, diabetologist at the «Giovanni XIII» hospital in Bari; «From the Debut to the Challenge: the psychological aspects in the diabetic patient and the role of sport» with Dr. Alessandra Rutigliano, psychologist at the «Giovanni XIII» hospital in Bari; “Sport and Diabetes: a necessary and possible union” with Dr. Clara Zecchino, pediatrician and diabetic at the “Giovanni XIII” hospital in Bari; “Sport, a life goal – the obstacles that do not stop us” with Monica Priore; “Diabetes, sports and family: a path of inclusion” with Prof. Lucia Vitale, president of AGD Ba-Bat-Ta; «Nutrition, Diabetes and Sport: conscious nutrition» with Dr. Patrizia Lamberti, biologist and nutritionist, «The technology for a better management of the disease even in sport» with Dr. Maurizio Delvecchio, pediatrician with diabetes at the “Giovanni XIII” hospital in Bari.
