Asensio’s contract expires at the end of the season. And of all arch-rivals FC Barcelona are dealing with a transfer of the national player. The Catalan radio station “RAC1” had already reported in September that Asensio is said to have already signed a preliminary contract with the Catalans.
Internally, however, the planned transfer is causing a lot of fuss at Barça. This is what “Mundo Deportivo” reports.
For some it would be a perfect transfer – because Asensio, a Spanish international in the prime of life, would be free. Barça President Joan Laporta maintains excellent relations with Asensio’s agent Jorge Mendes. And because it would be a change that would hurt the rival from Madrid, despite Asensio’s short playing times. A change between these two clubs is always a political issue.
But there are also some at the club who are against Asensio’s commitment – because they have other construction sites, such as a back-up striker for Robert Lewandowski, a new left-back, a midfield replacement for Sergio Busquets, whose contract will not be renewed . But no right winger. Barça is well occupied in this position with former Dortmund player Ousmane Dembélé (25) and summer new signing Raphinha (joined from Leeds United for 58 million euros).
The Spanish “Marca” reported on Sunday that a contract extension at Real is no longer out of the question. Both parties would have approached again.
