Latvian floorball players start the world championship with a loss to the Czech Republic / Article

Already in the 52nd second of the game, one of the leaders of the Czech national team, Marek Beneš, made it 1:0 in favor of the opponents with a shot from the front of the goal. In the 12th minute of the match, the Latvians came back after the break with another lost goal, 2-0 in favor of the Czechs by Matejs Havlas, who strengthened the opponents’ lead even more three minutes before the end of the period.

Approaching the second period and the middle of the match, Janson reduced the advantage of the opponents with a shot from in front of the goal. The Latvians realized the next majority as well, with Trekš making it 2:3 five minutes before the end of the third period. A couple of minutes later, a free kick was awarded to the goal of the Latvian national team, which Beneš realized – 4:2.

In the third period, after 54 seconds played, Krūmiņš made it 3-4 from the back of the net, but half a minute later, Josefs Ripars restored the two-goal advantage. With Latvia playing with an empty goal, Mikulāš Krbecs made it 6:3 two minutes before the end of regular time.

On Sunday, Latvia will cross clubs with Sweden, and on Monday they will face Germany. Sweden won the match between these teams on Saturday – 19:4 (5:0, 6:3, 8:1).

Norway, Slovakia, Switzerland and Finland compete in subgroup A, Canada, Estonia, Thailand and Singapore compete in subgroup C, and Poland, Denmark, Philippines and Australia compete in subgroup D.

In the subgroup, the teams will play against each other. The owners of the first two places in groups A and B will immediately enter the quarter-finals, while the owners of the third and fourth positions will have a duel with the two strongest teams of the second echelon of each group.

The national team consists of two goalkeepers, seven defensive players and eleven forwards. The largest representation from local clubs in the national team is the champion team Cēsi “Lekringam” – four players. There are three floorball players each from “Lielvārde” https://news.google.com/”Fat Pipe” and Talsu NSS/”Krauzers”, two from “Ķekava”, and one each from the “Rubenes” and “Valmieras” teams of Kocēni. Another six floorball players included in the application play in foreign clubs.

The role of national team captain is played by Artis Raitums, in whose career this is already the ninth tournament of this level. The team includes four adult world championship debutants – Gustavs Griezītis, Daniels Jānis Anis, Valters Kalnietis and Jēkabs Keišs.

The Latvian men’s national team currently occupies the fifth position in the world ranking of the International Floorball Federation (IFF), and this position was also won in the previous two final tournaments in Prague and Helsinki.

Latvian floorball players have participated in all 13 world championships held so far and the highest achievement is the fifth position obtained six times (2006, 2008, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2020).

The final tournament of the World Championship will take place in the Swiss cities of Zurich and Winterthur until November 13.
