Ostapenko and Kichenok, ranked fifth, defeated Kazakh tennis players Anna Danilina and Brazilian Beatrice Hadada Maja – 6-7 (7-9), 6-4, 10-8 at the end of the group round. In the semifinals on Sunday, Ostapenko/Kichenoka will meet the main favorites Czech Barbora Krejčikova and Kateržina Siniakova, who have not yet lost in the final tournament.

Ostapenko and Kichenok are scheduled to start the semi-finals at 20.30 Latvian time.

In the first matches in the group, Ostapenko and Kichenoka previously conceded to Veronika Kudermetova and Belgian Eliza Mertens, and also recognized the superiority of Canadian Gabriela Dabrovsky and Mexican tennis player Juliana Olmos.

In order for Ostapenko and Kičenokai to enter the semi-finals, it was necessary for Kudermetova/Mertens to finish the group round without losses, and the situation turned out favorably for the Latvian and Ukrainian duo. Kudermetova/Mertens defeated Dabrovski and Olmos 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

Eight pairs are participating in the doubles, which were divided into two groups, and after the round play, two duos each entered the semi-finals. At the end of the group stage, three pairs scored one victory each, and Ostapenko/Kichenoka took a higher position as a duo with a better ratio of won and lost sets.

The $5 million indoor hard court tournament in Fort Worth, Texas runs through November 7. In doubles matches, each pair is guaranteed 50,000 dollars for participating in the tournament, and another 20,000 dollars is due for each victory in the group. The winners of the tournament will share 170,000 dollars.

Ostapenko only qualified for the finals in doubles, where together with Kichenok, she played 16 tournaments in the season and won two titles, going undefeated in Birmingham and Cincinnati. In two “Grand Slam” tournaments – the French Open and Wimbledon – the duo reached the semi-finals, which helped the pair enter the TOP10 doubles ranking for the first time in August.

After the rating points accumulated during the season, the eight best tennis players will compete in singles in the final tournament, including the world leader from Poland, Iga Šviontek, who ensured participation in the semi-finals, where the Greek tennis players Marija Sakari and Arina Sabalenka will also play. The last vacancy for participation in the semi-finals was won by French Caroline Garcia, who defeated Daria Kasatkina 4-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-5).

In the singles semifinals on Sunday, Garcia’s opponent will be Sakari, while Šviontek will meet Sabalenka.
