The attacking defender of the Capitalinos de La Habana, Raimil Cordero, has been in Ecuador for about two weeks to fulfill a contract with the Importadora Alvarado Basketball Club.
“The possibility arose two years ago through the trainer Muñeca Valdés. I came here to contribute as a professional coach and player and being part of this is very important to me, because it gives me the chance to do what I love”, declared Cordero, exclusively for Play-Off Magazine.
This entity, which represents the city of Ambato, is one of the most prestigious in the country. In its forty-five years of existence, it has managed to be a national monarch and participate in South American Championships and international tournaments.
“I am excited, because they give me the confidence to propose and contribute professionally. From the sporting point of view, I feel ambitious and I want to give them the opportunity to get back on the podium and bring recognition to the city.
“Being part of that, giving the best of me, is among my personal and sporting desires,” added the organizing point guard.
In this way, Cordero joins the list of Cuban basketball players who have shown their game in Ecuadorian lands and follows in the footsteps of athletes such as Santiago Peñalver, Adriano Barreras and Reynaldo García, among others.
It is worth noting that, in his career on the Cuban courts, the 1.90 m tall player won a bronze medal and a fourth place with the blue train of the capital and, in addition, managed to be invited to the national pre-selection.
