From November 11 to 13, the Spanish Under 17 Badminton championship took place in Villanueva de la Vera, it is the third time in 5 years that the town of Extremadura hosted a Spanish championship of this modality and it did so with more than 115 athletes from 14 Territorial Federations and more than 50 sports entities.
The championship could be followed live through the FESBA YouTube channel and reached 15,000 reproductions, which shows the interest in following in the footsteps of the young promises of Spanish badminton.
In a Municipal Sports Center that dressed up and looked spectacular to host the competition, there were several historical milestones, starting with the gold poker achieved by Badminton Ibiza. In addition, it stands out that local player Mariela Vázququez achieved the first national title in the category for an Extremaduran midfielder by winning mixed doubles gold together with CB Oviedo player Adolfo López.

The Ibizan athletes shone with their own light, with Ramon Rovira winning the gold in IM, Macarena Izquierdo the gold in IF, again Macarena together with Carmen Jiménez took the gold in DF and the Guasch brothers got the gold in DM. The rain of medals for the Ibizans did not end there, as they also achieved two silver and one bronze.
The U17 Spanish Championship is held thanks to the organization of the Cura Mora Sports Association, the Extremadura Badminton Federation and the Spanish Badminton Federation, and with the essential support of the Villanueva de la Vera City Council, the Junta de Extremadura, the Provincial Council of Cáceres and collaborating companies from the municipality of Cáceres that supported the event.
The awards ceremony was one of the most emotional moments of the weekend and was attended by Antonio Caperote, mayor of Villanueva, Fernando Bravo, president of the Rxtremeña Badminton Federation, and Ernesto Garcia, representative of FESBA.
