SAO PAULO β Two racers for the Mercedes AMG Petronas Team, George Russell and Lewis Hamilton controlled the two highest podiums in the 2022 Brazilian GP Formula One (F1) race which just ended at the Interlagos Circuit, on Monday (14/11/2022) early morning WIB. Russell ensured he won after appearing the fastest, while Hamilton had to settle for runner-up.
Then the last racer to complete the podium at the 2022 F1 Brazilian Grand Prix was the Scuderia Ferrari racer, Carlos Sainz Jr, who finished third. Right behind Sainz is his teammate, Charles Leclerc and in fifth place is occupied by Max Verstappen (Red Bull Racing).
The Road Race
Mercedes driver George Russell led the race in the early minutes. Meanwhile, another Mercedes driver, Lewis Hamilton followed behind, third position occupied by Red Bull Racing driver, Max Verstappen.
Not long ago, Haas racer Kevin Magnussen was involved in an incident with McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo. Not only that, Hamilton and Verstappen were also involved in a collision.
Verstappen was blamed for the incident, the Dutchman was given a five second penalty. As well as Verstappen, McLaren driver Lando Norris was also penalized with a five-second penalty.
Hamilton also blamed Verstappen for the incident. He was furious because Verstappen pushed him around the corner.
“He didn’t give me space. Where do they expect me to go? But it doesn’t matter,” Hamilton said on the team radio voice, reported by Crash, Monday (11/14/2022).
Entering the 19th lap, Red Bull’s Sergio Perez then raced into second place, while Verstappen fell to 15th. Russell then made his way to the pit stop to switch to medium tires.
Entering lap 26, Hamilton was able to overtake Russell in the leading position, however, Mercedes continued to dominate the race. Hamilton then joined in changing the tires with medium.
Russell then took over the lead on lap 31, while Hamilton trailed in fourth. Perez and Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz Jr. took second and third place.
βThe tires are great, let’s keep this up,β Russell said over his team radio voice.
Until lap 38, Russell was still leading the race. The British racer did not seem to get enough significant resistance from his rivals.
Mercedes’ dominance in the race was disrupted by Ferrari. The reason is, Sainz overtook Hamilton’s position in second place on lap 50.
Entering lap 60, Hamilton returned to take over second place. Mercedes again showed dominance in the race this time.
Meanwhile, in fifth and sixth place there was also an exchange. Fernando Alonso overtook Sergio Perez in fifth when he passed turn five.
Shortly thereafter, Perez’s position in fifth place was overtaken by Verstappen. While at the forefront, Russell did not seem to get any significant resistance.
Russell also managed to win the F1 Grand Prix of Brazil, Hamilton and Sainz also managed to secure podium positions.
