The Government of Navarra, through the Navarro Sports Institute (IND), has presented the 36 Navarra Sports Games, in an edition in which the organizers expect the participation of some 30,000 schoolchildren, with a budget of 1.3 million euros, and 38 federations will participate, which will offer 82 different sports modalities.
Those responsible for the IND face this new call “with the hope of enjoying the best edition of the Navarre Sports Games and exceeding 30,000 participants for the first time.”
The Minister of Culture and Sports, Rebeca Esnaola, and the managing director of the Navarro Sports Institute, Miguel Pozueta, were present at the press conference, which took place at the Kulturgunea cultural center in Tafalla.
Esnaola has pointed out that “the Sports Games have as their objective the promotion and practice of sports, the presence of all modalities and categories, and also influence the educational nature and the promotion of values in sport.” In addition, she has commented that “the growth of mixed sports modalities and women’s sports progresses, which is very important so that more and more girls have the reference of sport in their daily habits.”
In her speech, the counselor pointed out the importance of promoting in Sports Games “values such as fair play, camaraderie, self-improvement, inclusion, equality and respect” because “it is about ensuring a sports practice safe and healthy.”
NEW IN THIS EDITION
For his part, Pozueta has presented the novelties of this edition such as the modalities of mountain races, horse jumping, parkour and windsurfing. And he added that “this week the Resolution approving the agreements with each participating sports federation and the economic amounts to each of them to organize the activities of these Sports Games” was signed. In this sense, he has commented that “at the request of some federations the established amounts have been updated”.
In addition, he pointed out that from the IND “a reflection and analysis of the program is carried out and continuous work is carried out with the participating federations, to improve it”. In this sense, work is being done on “the promotion of values in sport, in the promotion of mixed, inclusive and participatory sports activities, and competition regulations are being developed to ensure a minimum participation time for all athletes. “.
This year a computer application has been created for “more efficient” management of the agents involved in the organization of the bus transport service: federations, bus companies and IND technical staff. The start-up scheduled for January 2023. This application also makes it easier for citizens to consult the travel plans for the weekend.

DEVELOPMENT AND PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
The calendar of the different sports modalities that will be present in these sports games is very diverse. Some types of teams and league format (soccer, basketball, handball…) start the competition in the months of September and October. Others do it with the beginning of the new year and others, outdoors, will start their competitions in spring (triathlon) or in autumn if they are winter sports, and continue in spring (MTB and Baseball, for example). Even some sports modality is carried out exclusively during the summer months (Sailing, for example).
This program is aimed at all schoolchildren residing in Navarra who belong to a sports club in the categories of juvenile, infant, cadet and youth (11 to 18 years) and, exceptionally, youngest (8, 9 and 10 years).
To be able to participate in the Sports Games of Navarra, the requirements that are requested from schools are that the participants reside or are educated in Navarra, belong to a sports club registered in the Navarra Sports Registry and pay the participation fee, which for this edition it is between 5 and 7 euros, if they offer 3 or less days of competition, in the first case, or more than three, in the second.
The medical attention of the participating students will be borne by the family health insurance, but an agreement has also been established with the Navarro Health System so that their health care, if applicable to Social Security, is provided by the Service Navarro de Salud-Osasunbidea (SNS-O).
Also, there is an accident insurance policy that covers the risks of death and/or anatomical and functional losses by accident. Likewise, civil liability derived from the scheduled activity is included in the general civil liability coverage established by the Government of Navarra.
BALANCE OF THE 35 SPORTS GAMES IN NAVARRE
The 35th edition of the Navarra Sports Games (JDN) finished on August 31, 2022 could be carried out, according to the IND, “with total normality”.
38 sports federations participated and a record number of participating athletes was obtained, which stands at 29,294, and which is expected to be surpassed in the current edition.
