Stijn Vreven makes a surprising comeback

In recent years, Belgian clubs increasingly opted for foreign trainers, making it not always easy for Belgian coaches to find a new challenge in their own country. Stijn Vreven was also allowed to experience that, because the 44-year-old no longer found a Belgian club after the bankruptcy of Lokeren in 2020.

The trainer was still working at the Slovak top club AS Trencin in the 2020/21 season, but was fired there in April 2021. Since then, his name has been dropped here and there at a Belgian club, but in the end he remained without a job for no less than a year and seven months. Now he is going back to work, even in Belgium.

Vreven does take a step back, because The Importance of Limburg knows that he will be the new trainer of Dessel Sport. He signs a contract until the end of the season with the number seventeen in the first national, who only managed to collect eight points in twelve matches. Vreven now has to guide them to the rescue, because for the time being they are on a jump-off site.

OLD NEST

For Vreven it is a return to where it all started, because in the 2012/13 season he already worked for Dessel at the beginning of his coaching career. He then climbed to Lommel, Waasland-Beveren, NAC Breda, Beerschot, Lokeren and Trencin.
