Swiss tennis players will face the Czech Republic in the semifinals of the King’s Cup

The Swiss tennis players, having also won the second match of Group A, entered the semi-finals of the Billie Jean King Cup final tournament in Glasgow on Friday, where they will face the Czech team.

The Swiss defeated Canada 2-1 in the last match of Group A.

In the first singles match, Viktoria Golubic (WTA 77) defeated Bianca Andreska (WTA 45) 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, followed by Belinda Bencic’s (WTA 12) victory over Leila Fernandez (WTA 40) with 6 -0, 7-5.

On the other hand, in the doubles match, which did not decide the outcome of the match, the Canadians Gabriela Dabrovska and Fernandes beat the Swiss Simona Waltert and Gilles Teichmann 6-2, 6-1.

In group A, the Swiss won both duels and took first place. The Canadian women settled for the second position, while the Italian women came third, losing to both Canada and Switzerland.

Meanwhile, in the fight for the last ticket to the semi-finals, in the final match of Group D, the Czech Republic defeated the USA tennis players 2-1.

First, Marketa Vondrousova (WTA 99) won 6-3, 6-3 over Daniela Collins (WTA 14), while in the second singles Katerzyna Sinjakova (WTA 47) won 7-6 (7:1), 6-1 defeated Koko Goff (WTA No. 7) to secure the Czech Republic’s place in the semi-finals.

In the final doubles match, the outcome of which could no longer affect the outcome of the duel, the Americans Madison Keys and Taylor Townsend defeated the Czech duet Karolina Pliskova/Karolina Mukhova 6-3, 6-3.

The Czech Republic finished first in Group D, ahead of the USA, while Poland settled for third, behind both of the aforementioned teams.

The best team from each group advanced to the semi-finals.

The final tournament of the Billie Jean King Cup will take place until November 13 at the “Emirates” arena. Games are played indoors on a hard surface.

Last year’s King’s Cup final in Prague was won by Russian tennis players, who beat Swiss tennis players 2-0 in singles.

Previously, the tennis tournament was known as the Federation Cup, but the name was changed last year in honor of the famous tennis player Billie Jean King.
