The Cabildo organizes the first TOP-TTR National Badminton in Arrecife

The Councilor for Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Alfredo Mendoza, presented this Wednesday the first edition of the TOP-TTR National Badminton Tournament, “an unprecedented competition on the Island” that will take place this weekend. The director was accompanied by the person in charge of Lanzarote Racket Club, Óliver Gausmann, and the Councilor for Sports of Arrecife, Rosmen Quevedo.

In the competition that starts next Saturday, November 4, and ends on Sunday, there are a total of 180 registered players, who will star in 360 matches on the 15 playing courts that the Insular Sports Service will enable in the headquarters of the Sports City of Lanzarote and the pavilion of the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe.

The TOP-TTR National Badminton hosts from the Under-11 category to the Popular modality, passing through the Under-15, Under-19 and Senior. On Saturday, the meetings begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at approximately 9:00 p.m.; while for the morning of Sunday the 6th, the semifinals and finals are scheduled, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

This national tournament is sponsored by the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through the coordination of the Insular Sports Service and the organization of the Badminton Lanzarote Racquet Club, with the collaboration of the Arrecife City Council, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Canary Islands.

“Solvent sports facilities”

In his speech, the councilor Alfredo Mendoza made reference to the “commitment that the Island Institution maintains regarding the promotion of the quarry on the Island and the permanent improvement of the sports facilities, which day in and day out are also the scene of national and international impact. In addition, he expressed his gratitude to the organization carried out by the Lanzarote Racket Club at this event, supported by the Insular Sports Service, and added that he hopes that the results of the meeting “facilitate the continuity and progression of new competitions of this magnitude on the Island ”.

Finally, the counselor stressed that the tournament enters directly into a national ranking of the discipline, with which Lanzarote is once again “at the epicenter of national calls around sport.”

For his part, Councilor Rosmen Quevedo spoke of the “importance of badminton in Lanzarote”, and thanked the Lanzarote Racket Club for “the work they do on a daily basis” for promoting this sport and for “the effort they make for the start-up of the Lanzarote National TOP-TTR”.

Óliver Gausmann, from the Lanzarote Racket Club, gave a detailed account of the practice of this sport on the island during the presentation, where it has more than 400 licenses and is present in the seven municipalities. He also highlighted the global reach of badminton. Gausmann, who is also a national referee of the discipline, thanked “the enormous collaboration of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, given the organizational and logistical deployment of the competition.”

The tournament will have 16 track referees, two referees and a match-control. Asked about some of the favorites from Lanzarote who could win an award, Óliver Gausmann commented that Irene Rodríguez (Under-19) and Adrián Carabali (Under-15) are called to perform well.

According to the Cabildo, the National Badminton Federation “will monitor the event to assess the holding of other international competitions in Lanzarote.”
