Alcántara unanimously wins Major League Baseball Pitcher of the Year 2022

Sandy Alcántara, pitcher for the Miami Marlins, was awarded Major League Baseball’s “Dominican Pitcher of the Year 2022” this Wednesday, December 28, during an event that was held at Triana Ibéricos Restaurant in Ensanche Bella Vista, Santo Domingo.

Alcántara unanimously won the coveted Pitcher of the Year trophy, designed by Logomarca, receiving 21 first-place votes, for a total of 210 points.

Framber Valdez, starter for the Houston Astros, finished in second place with 19 second-place votes, 1 third-place votes and 1 fourth-place votes, for a total of 165 points.

The award ceremony, which is celebrated for the twenty-third edition, is organized by the company JJ Sports.

Pitcher of the Year winners who have received their trophy in the past 22 years include Pedro Martinez, Jose Mesa, Edison Volquez, Armando Benitez, Bartolo Columbus, Ubaldo Jimenez, Johnny Cueto, Luis Severino, Freddy Peralta, Luis Castle, among others.

Emmanuel Clase, closer for the Cleveland Guardians, finished in third place with 137 total points with 2 second-place votes, 11 third-place votes, 4 fourth-place votes, and 4 fifth-place votes.

Cristian Javier, starter for the Houston Astros, received fourth place with 7 third votes, 11 fourth votes, 4 fifth votes, for a total of 129 points.

Luis Castillo, pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, was in fifth place with a total of 109 points 2 votes from third, 5 from fourth, 9 from fifth and 5 votes from sixth.

Felix Bautista, reliever for the Baltimore Orioles, with 1 fourth vote, 4 fifth votes, and 16 sixth votes, to finish in sixth position with a total of 90 points.

In addition to the Pitcher of the Year, the “Major League Dominican Player of the Week” award also distinguishes the “Rookie of the Year”, the “Most Valuable Player” and the “Offensive Player”.
